While I loved this experiment, and the amount of discipline that it required, I am going to have to press pause for now. I’m in the middle of a religious fast (it’s Ramadan for Muslims), and my lack of disciplined nutrition and the fact that I don’t eat or drink throughout the daylight, I just don’t have the energy to keep up the intensity of work that I usually put into the gym. I’m losing almost a pound a day, and I imagine that it is muscle as well as fat, so... more
Six Pack Abdominals: Days 22-28
Things are getting better now. I am eating super lean, cutting all processed carbs, and just feeling better. I’m sleeping better, performing better athletically, and am generally more enthusiastic about everything. I’m really starting to enjoy this. My meals consist of nothing but great, natural ingredients. Meals are as follows: Breakfast: 1 cup oatmeal (100% rolled oats, no sugar or any other ingredients), made with fat free milk, honey, and cinnamin 2 sunny side up or boiled eggs 2-4... more
Six Pack Abdominals: Days 18-21
So as promised, I ate like crap the entire weekend. It was my buddies wedding, and we had a blast. Now I face the reprocussions. But I’m getting serious. For the next 30 days I plan on eating grilled chicken, grilled beef, or tuna for meat, and veggies and potatoes for sides. For breakfast I will eat eggs, oatmeal, and turkey bacon. It’s time to make some drastic changes, and I think this will work. I will allow myself 1 cheat meal per week, but other than that, this will... more
Six Pack Abdominals: Days 14-17
These last few days have been ok, but this weekend is going to be rough. My good friend and old roommate is getting married, and it’s an indian wedding, so that means it will last like 3 days and there will be a lot of bad food. But my plan is to raise the bar monday. I’m going to start eating only chicken, fish, and things that grow out of the ground. I figure that should give me adequate calories without eating a bunch of crap. And I will also up my fitness to 7 workouts per... more
Six Pack Abdominals: Days 8-13
So for the last week I’ve been on the injured list… I rolled my ankle pretty badly last wednesday playing basketball and have only now started to recover. Yesterday evening was my first day back in the gym. So last week was a bit of a setback, but I’m back on track and as soon as the ankle heals enough I’ll be back on the court as well. Nutrition-wise I’ve been ok. I’ll admit there was a cheeseburger here and there, but no sweets and I’ve maintained... more
Six Pack Abdominals: Day 7
Yesterday was day 7 of my Six Pack Abdominals experiment. Overall things went well, though as you can see I didn’t eat nearly what I was supposed to. I’m aiming to eat about 2800 calories, and yesterday I was about 900 calories short… just a little, right? If I keep up this fitness level, I really need to be reaching my caloric intake goal. more If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed! Read More →
Six Pack Abdominals: Days 2-6
I have to admit, I haven’t been keeping up with recording everything I eat as well as I planned. I know I should, but this is more difficult and requires much more time than most of my experiments. I have been eating fairly well though. I’m sure I’m staying around 2800 calories, which is fine considering I’m probably burning more than that daily. I weighed in at 204.9 this morning, which is not bad considering I started at 209.5. That’s about 4.5 lbs change... more
Six Pack Abdominals: Day 1
Yesterday was the first day of my six pack abs experiment. As promised I have recorded everything I ate, along with my physical activity. As you can see, I ate 3,042 calories yesterday, and as the image below shows, I burned 4,779 calories. Not bad for the first day. I’m sure that kind of activity wont keep up, since I don’t play basketball for 2+ hours everyday. I actually played for 3 hours, but considering all of the breaks between games and such, I put 2:15 in the program. ... more
Six Pack Abdominals
For my next Brain Vault experiment my goal will be to achieve visible six pack abdominals. Anyone who has ever tried to achieve this knows that it is no easy task. Visible abdominals usually require 9-12% bodyfat at the most, so coming down from 18% or so is not going to be easy. But I will journal the experience and keep you informed with everything I do, and if I do achieve visible abs you’ll know exactly what it takes. The time period for this experiment will be 60 days. more If... more
Biphasic Sleep: Post Mortem
I finished the Biphasic Sleep Experiment 4 days ago. I have since slept 2 nights monophasic and 2 more nights biphasic. Here is what I think after having experienced both. After 2 days of monophasic my midday lul (around 1:30 - 3 pm) decreased. I wasn’t as tired, and after getting up and moving a bit it seemed almost non-existant, as compared to biphasic. But without my afternoon/evening nap, I got tired much earlier than usual, around 1 am instead of 4 am. And instead of waking... more
