This morning ended day 7 of my biphasic sleep experiment. This means I’ve made it through the first of 4 weeks. Here are a few observations I’ve made so far.
- It’s easy to get out of bed Monday – Friday when I work at 8 am; Saturday and Sunday were both more difficult, since there is nothing immediately forcing me out of bed.
- I definitely enjoy the extra productivity, but it’s almost becoming difficult to fill all the extra time. That’s why I’ve taken on so many new projects, including my newest, contributing for LifeHack.org.
- It is much more difficult than you might anticipate trying to take a nap around 8 pm. I find myself spending times with friends around this time quite often, and it’s kinda awkward to have to leave or excuse myself to take a nap. Luckily my friends are all pretty excited about seeing how it goes, so it’s no big deal.
- I can actually watch TV without feeling guilty for not getting things done. I still don’t watch TV, but if something happens to catch my eye, it’s no big deal.
- I really enjoy being part of an experience that very few people will ever have. Biphasic has taught me that it’s ok to question everything that we consider normal, and that sometimes that very questioning can lead us to greater things.
I’m sure I’ve made other interesting observations so far, but this is all you get for now.
