Biphasic Sleep: Days 12, 13, and 14

Biphasic Sleep: Days 12, 13, and 14

This morning ended day 14 of the experiment.  Over the weekend I made a few interesting observations about biphasic sleep.  These will give you a little insight as to a couple of quirks that come along with a biphasic sleep pattern.

First of all, I went out of town to visit my fiance.  As it turns out, significant others aren’t too pleased with the biphasic pattern.  She was supportive, but I could tell she missed me at night, so saturday night I stayed with her (and slept for 6 hours).  What I found was that it is still easy to revert back to the biphasic pattern the next day.  Sunday evening I was back on course.

I also realized that using an eye mask makes it much easier to get to sleep.  I bought one online when I first  started, but it just came this weekend.  I used it the past two nights and it works fantastically.  I don’t have a lot of light in my room to begin with, but it really helps for when something wakes you up and it’s bright outside, or when napping during daylight hours.  Opening your eyes and not having them peirced by light is really nice, and makes it easier to fall back asleep.

The hardest part of the experiment so far has been the 1 pm – 2 pm time phase.  I am always pretty low energy around this time, but now it’s worse.  And what makes matters even worse is that I am in a summer class from 12-3, so it’s even more difficult to nap then.  I’m going to try leaving class for just 10 minutes, going to the campus library, and putting my head down on a desk for a quick recharge nap, and see how that goes.  I’ll let you know tomorrow if it was successful.  I know I shouldn’t be leaving class to sleep, but I can’t quit the experiment now!

Emotional State: intrigued

Mental State: Alert

Physical State: up and running

Feelings about Biphasic: routine

Productivity: high

Diet: normal

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update.
