Biphasic Sleep: Days 17-21

Biphasic Sleep: Days 17-21

The days are starting to become stantard.  Other than the fact that I’m awake for 4 hours or so wheen most people are sleeping, I feel relatively normal  with biphasic sleep.

I’ve experienced something quite new in my biphasic experiment.  Yesterday evening I worked out and then hung out with friends, completely forgeting about my nap.  It wasn’t until about 1 am that I remembered, but I figured it was too late to take a nap, considered I would only wake up for 1.5  hours before going to sleep again.  I decided I would just go to bed 1.5 hours early, and still get the 4.5 hours as usual.  This was not the case.  I woke up feeling heavy, slow, and all but useless.  I called in to work and slept for almost 3 more hours (7.5 hours total) and now I’m feeling a bit more normal.

So as it turns out, the schedule is pretty important.  My body has obviously adjusted to the biphasic pattern of sleep.  It turns out that the time that I am laying in bed isn’t as important as the fact that I divide the time into 2 now.  This is very different than the average person, who feels like they need a certain number of hours to function properly.  For me it’s apparently not about the hours, but the fact that the hours I sleep be divide.

One last note, it turns out that I am not as disciplined as I thought.  I follow the schedule perfectly monday through friday, but once the weekend comes around, and there is nothing forcing me out of bed, I tend to oversleep.  Not to the extent of 8+ hours, but sometimes my morning sleep (which is supposed to be 3 hours) will extend to 4.5 on saturday or sunday.  Overall I’m still following the schedule to the best of my ability.

I’ve decided to name my sleep schedule (3 hours sleep, 13.5 hours awake, 1.5 hours sleep,  6 hours awake) the Universal Man sleep pattern.  The name tells us that this pattern is universal and can be acheived by any man.

Long live the Universal Man biphasic sleep schedule.
